Head Coach nd owner, Julio brings a lifetime of fencing experience to Invictus Fencing Club.

Raised in Atlanta, Julio first started fencing with his father, who was on the Cuban National Team.  He was fortunate to have been taught by some of the finest coaches in the country. He fenced at Atlanta Fencer's Club where he was taught by Andy Shaw and then Gene Gettler.  He was a member of Nellya Fencers and coached by Maestro Arkady Burdan.  As a fencer he was in junior and national teams and a member of the Olympic Festival Teams in the 90's.  He won Southeast Sectionals seven times and continues to fence competitively.  A member of  4 World Championship teams, Julio also won gold at the Veterans Pan-American and Can-Am World Cup.

Julio has been coaching for 20+ years. his students have had success in all three weapons. Many of his students have gone on to gain recognition and results in collegiate, national and international events.  He is the current coach at the University of Florida Fencing Club in Gainesville.

His individual approach to each student and his knowledge and experience in fencing, biomechanics and physiology help him bring out the best in each athlete.
